Contraindications
Diabetes mellitus, impaired kidney function, raised CSF pressure and severe liver disease.
Special Precautions
Hot and humid conditions in patients with fever, particularly in childn and patients given with atropine. Ingestion of 30-60 mL may be fatal.
Adverse Reactions
Increased salivation and bronchial secretion; laryngeal spasm; severe hypotension; hyperglycaemia; malignant hyperthermia. Alterations in liver and kidney function. Convulsions. Dependence. Local: Necrosis (prolonged contact).
Potentially Fatal: Respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
Drug Interactions
Enhances action of competitive neuromuscular blockers. Potentiates arrhythmogenic effect of sympathomimetics. Enhanced hypotensive effects with ACE inhibitors, MAOIs, tricyclic antidepressants, antihypertensives, antipsychotics, β-blockers. CNS depressants.

Mechanism of Action: Dietthy ether was formerly used as an inhalational anaesthetic. It has been replaced in many countries by halogenated anaesthetics. Ethers possess analgesic and mucle relaxant properties as well as resp stimulating effects.
